Our Vision
Color Your Story Onto Mine is a faith-based initiative dedicated to archiving and chronicling the voices and artistic expressions of trauma survivors, with a special focus on African-American, Indigenous, and Native women and girls. We believe that every story matters and that through sharing these experiences, we can foster understanding, healing, and empowerment.
Our Mission
At Color Your Story Onto Mine, our mission is to preserve stories, promote healing through the arts, and cultivate resilience. We aim to create a safe space for reflection, empowerment, and recovery through our future museum, memorial, and healing programs. Our programs are designed to end cruelty against children and eradicate sexual violence, providing vital support for those affected by trauma.
What We Do
We offer educational programs and exhibitions that inspire change and encourage community engagement. By highlighting the artistic expressions of trauma survivors, we aim to foster dialogue and understanding about the impacts of violence and the power of resilience. Through our initiatives, we strive to create a community that values healing, support, and compassion.

Join us in our journey to create a world where every voice is heard, every story is honored, and healing is possible.
At Color Your Story Onto Mine (CYSOM), we embrace the principle that healing is a communal journey. It takes a village not only to raise a child but also to nurture the soul of every individual affected by trauma. As the saying goes, "It takes a village to raise a child, but it also takes a village to destroy one." This duality underscores the profound impact our communities have on both healing and harm.
In our mission, we recognize that healing must encompass the victim, the survivor, and the offender. We believe in full circle healing—a holistic approach that seeks restoration for all involved. As we navigate and revisit the places that have held us bound—family, church, behavioral health care system, foster care system, department of corrections, the justice system, and community—we aim to foster understanding, reconciliation, and growth.
Scripture reminds us of the power of community in healing:
“Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2, ESV)
This passage speaks to the shared responsibility we have toward one another. At CYSOM, we strive to create a safe haven where survivors can reclaim their narratives, knowing they are not alone. Our belief in the universal rights to justice, help, and rescue echoes the biblical truth that everyone deserves compassion and understanding.
We recognize that healing begins when we reclaim our stories and empower one another. Each survivor’s journey is unique, and it is essential that they are seen, heard, and valued, regardless of their past.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17, ESV)
This scripture encapsulates our belief that transformation is possible. No one is defined by their past; rather, they have the opportunity to become a new creation. At CYSOM, we provide the tools and support necessary for individuals to embark on their healing journey, fostering an environment that promotes restoration and hope.
Furthermore, in Galatians 1:22-24 (ESV), the Apostle Paul reflects on his transformation:
“And I was still unknown in person to the churches of Judea that are in Christ. They only were hearing it said, ‘He who used to persecute us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.’ And they glorified God because of me.”
This illustrates the power of redemption and how transformation can lead to collective praise and healing.
In committing to full circle healing, we seek to break the cycles of trauma and restore dignity to every individual. By working together, we can cultivate a community that uplifts, supports, and nurtures healing, ensuring that justice, help, and rescue are accessible to all.

My life has been shaped by profound challenges, but through faith and resilience, I have found a path to healing that I now share with others.
My journey began in difficult circumstances. As a child, I experienced severe trauma, including exploitation and abuse within my family. These experiences impacted my childhood and shaped my understanding of pain and survival. Throughout my early life, I faced numerous hardships that led me to struggle with feelings of isolation and despair.
As I transitioned into adulthood, I encountered additional challenges, including domestic violence, which further complicated my healing journey. I found that the systems designed to support individuals in crisis often fell short, leaving many—including myself—without the help we needed.
In my darkest moments, I felt a call to return to my roots. This decision marked the beginning of my healing journey. Through faith and introspection, I learned the importance of forgiveness and the strength that comes from embracing my own story. I discovered that I could reclaim my narrative and turn my pain into purpose.
Today, I am committed to empowering others who have faced similar struggles. At CYSOM, we provide a safe space for survivors to express themselves, share their stories, and engage in creative healing practices. I have developed a curriculum designed to help individuals heal from the inside out, emphasizing the importance of self-advocacy and community support.
My mission is to honor the voices of trauma survivors, ensuring they are seen, heard, and valued. I believe in the transformative power of storytelling and art as tools for healing, and I am dedicated to guiding others on their journeys toward empowerment and recovery. This vision is deeply personal to our founder, Violet Newborn, whose life journey is a testament to the power of art, storytelling, and community support. Having experienced chronic complex childhood trauma, sex trafficked via foster care system (by the state of TN & CA.), cult abuse via church & community, incarceration, homelessness, domestic violence and the daily challenges of PTSD, Violet has dedicated her life to ensuring that others do not go unseen or unheard.
